I'm having a strange issue with Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit. I just got a new 1TB drive and reinstalled windows on my 500GB drive because it is faster than the old thing I was using. The install went fine but now when I go to update windows it configures the updates, restarts, goes to configuration again, it will go to step 3 but then after about 15 minutes it will say "Updates were not configured correctly, Reverting changes."

Is this a problem with my windows install or something? I've never had this problem before and can't really find a lot of info on it. Any help would be appreciated.

no more problem

Funny thing cause this has not happened to me before with this hardware/software config. I usually reformat, install antivirus, chipset drivers, and then just check all the available updates in windows update. This time as I said it wouldn't do it so I did a google search and found a reference to update KB938371 being the problem. The description for it was something like " This update will allow future updates to be installed on windows." I imagine the fact that I was trying to install a bunch of updates with this one is what got screwed up somehow. I installed KB938371 by itself, restarted, and then installed all the others just dandy. Windows was probably putting that update in the wrong order cause I imagine it would have to go first, I dunno, anyhow installing that particular update alone seemed to work and I'm up to date once again.

Probably just a freak thing but it was strange because I haven't had any problems with windows update since windows XP released, in those days for me it was hit or miss whether or not a service pack would install correctly.

Hope this helps anyone else that might have this trouble
