Okkay I just feformated everything and installed windows xp sp2 and now when i go to windows update it doesnt seem to work it goes to the "windows update is looking for available updates" where it has that green bar and it just sit there for hours!! I dunno whats wrong, please help. Thanks

I just had the same problem, with w2000

microsoft update has a new format and software then last time i updated.

I has to allow the "generic host process for win32 servises" acsess in my firewall.

it seems to work now.

Ive noticed that the new Windows Update takes a lot longer to scan on my Windows 2000 box.

Is there anyway to speed it up? v4 was fast, this just sits at the green bar for almost 30 to 40 secs before it displays the updates. Microsoft Update is the same way.

Thats the new update working, it takes longer. There were 2 pieces of SW it had to update on my PC to work first. One of which is a genuine checker - from now on winupdate will only allow legit installations to dl updates (hacks exists though).

Set your IE activex settings to allow and allow svchost.exe on your firewall (can change both settings back afterwards). That gave me problems at first.

Yeah - you need to get the "I'm Authorized" patch installed first.
