Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page. You may find the following resources helpful in resolving the problem: Error 0X80072EE2

Cleared the cache - including offline files. No effect
Upgrad old user to admin and try. Works. Therefore assume profile corrupt.
Create new user. - No effect.
Copy profile from working account to new user. No effect. Breaks assumption about profile.
Deactivate Group Policy Settings - No effect.

Uni is where I downloaded sp2 in the first place via windows update. Unless they are specifically blocking windows update v5. Also the error does not occur upon access to the site, it allows me to start scanning. This occurs on another network as well. Dept of Education Network where I work. Other laptops running xp although not sp2 can access v5.

Decided to rebuild from format.

Clean Install from slipstreamed sp2 cd.
Worked on dialup at home, now at uni and get it this error.
Have since applied tweaks from tunexp, gpedit.msc, x-teq setup 6.3 and XP-antispy.
Have rolled back all the tweaks from xp-antispy - deactivated the group policy settings, undone the three tweaks I did in x-teq except for one dealing with the boot wallpaper. Undone all the tweaks in tunexp except the boot optomisation (it moves the system boot files and drivers to the start of the disc.) and the improve ntfs performance.

I have tracked it down in the windowsupdate.log to this error
2004-08-30 15:44:48+1000 1208 564 PT: Using server URL https://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/Clie...ice/client.asmx
2004-08-30 15:44:49+1000 1208 564 Add header for accept-encoding: xpress succeeded
2004-08-30 15:45:49+1000 1208 564 Send failed with hr = 80072ee2.

This error is not covered in the update assist, and the online support was unable to fix the problem without paying US$35. I decided to do a clean install at this point and am now back to it. realmad.gif

Have any of you had the same error and used the same programs or similar tweaks, if so what did you change.

Sorry I should have mentioned this, but I tried all those solutions and none of them worked. I was able to manually download that file.
Also that pertains to v4. I think the error code has either changed, or that that error code is most common with that problem. Thanks for the help though

Have determined @ home that the problem is restricted to the LAN connection. Dial-Up accesses the service fine, although I would prefer to access it via the unlimited connection I have at uni via the LAN.
