I can no longer access Win updates in Control Panel on my ROG laptop(Win 7 64). The only feature I can access is "view updates". Last update was 10/25/2015.
I get this message when I try to "Turn automatic updates on/off":
Windows cannot find 26EE0688-(long string of numbers and letters) ending with AD4/Page Setting. Then the message "Type name correctly and try again". :'(
Nothing happens at all, except a quick flash on desktop, when I try to access "Download Updates".
How do I fix this??

Thanks,

The Wife

Update error 0x8007000D. Can no longer download windows updates. Win FixIt program cannot fix either. Icon at left of Windows Update has also vanished in control panel, replaced with generic desktop icon. I guess I just ignore and never download updates again?

Sometimes you get an error when there are other updates waiting to be installed which need a reboot to do so. So my silly question is....have you tried a reboot?

I googled for that error number along with 'windows update 7', and came up with this:

http://blog.techprognosis.com/how-to-fix-windows-7-update-error-code-8007000d/

The methods outlined there are pretty standard WU fixing techniques.

If those don't work then a full chkdsk (chkdsk driveletter: /f /v /r) is worth doing if you don't need the computer for an hour or so (assuming HDD boot device, with most SSDs its much quicker).

I find the original error message a bit curious though, I haven't encountered that one before.

I've seen a similar message when the service responsible for generating the content in the window is not running. I don't remember though if that situation was fixable or had to reinstall Windows.

That's probably the cause. Now the update icon in Control Panel is an empty folder. None of the other suggested fixes worked,
