Been running WinXP Pro SP1 on a PC I Built - GA-8INXP MoBo , P4 3.06GHZ , 2GB Kingston Mem, ATI 9500 Pro - having couple of crashes while playing Generals.

Any way I tried to do windows update on the pc. It jumps to 0% and says no updates. I have noticed where it should say my OS like Windows XP it just says windows in gray. After formating c: and reinstalling WinXP Pro SP1 before installing any thing else I tried again. Same thing. I then installed Win2K and that is doing the same thing also.

I even reset the MoBo to default setting by pulling the battery. (Didn't figure it would do any thing but anything is worth a try now)

I have the same two OS on diffrent PCs and they update fine.

PLEASE HELP Guys.

Thanks
Mike

Make sure that the date is correct on your computer. If your date is not correct (the year), it will cause this indication. I had this happen on a Windows 98 box and it took me some time to figure out.

Hopefully this is your problem.

Whenever I see that happens, it is usually one of two things:

Date incorrect.

No default language defined. In IE, do Tools, Internet Options. Click the Languages button and make sure something is defined there.

In windows XP check the Windows Update.log file in the %system% directory, which most of the time is c:\windows. This file tells you the actions of the intelligent updater service.

Well I am sure the date was right the 1st time but maybe not. After I defaulted the BIOs the date does gets changed. I changed the date to the right date and it works.

Thanks Everyone for your responce.
