Windows Update keeps notifying of same update

It's notified my and I've installed twice now, the 329834 (Unchecked Buffer...), but it's still notifiying me. It's happened in the past once or twice, and I know you can just uncheck the box and click the Close button and it'll stop, but why does this happen in the first place?

Can't you just turn off notifications? Also, it best to double check that all patches are updated on your OS using the MS patch checking utility. Because Windowsupdate doesn't say you need a patch, doesn't mean you are patched, sometimes.

The install could be failing. There is a log file called WindowsUpdate.LOG in c:\windows\ (or c:\winnt\). Look for errors on that patch in there. If so download it manually and install it.

Only if you are behind on your service packs.

My dad had a similar situation with an update. He would get the notification, install it and in a few days it would pop up again with the same fix to install again. Of course, it was not installing. The problem was that there was another recommended update that the critical update fixed and without first installing the recommended the critical would not find what to fix. Could be a similar situation for you.
