Just did a fresh reinstall of XP & when I go to Windows Update it just hangs on the screen Checking...

Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update software...

Depending on your connection speed, this might take a minute. During this time, you may receive one or more security warnings. Review each security warning to ensure that the content is signed by Microsoft, and then click Install or Yes to install the software

Help?

I hope that you installed SP2 before connecting that machine to the internet.

The same thing happened to me as I was working on a friend's computer. He's got a legit Win XP that came on the Compaq. A Microsoft site search reported that it was caused by running Zone Alarm on the machine. Zone Alarm isn't even installed on it.
