Windows unexpected shutdown

We have some Windows 7 PCs at customer sites that are occasionally locking up requiring manual restart. The system log says "shutdown at xxx was unexpected". There's no BSOD type information.

Some testing I did with Sys internals Process Monitor showed that if windows shuts down/ locks up unexpectedly (e.g. hold in the power button) the proc mon log file is unreadable/ corrupt. Does anyone know of a way to log what is happening on a PC at the time it dies/ locks up.
