Windows transfer to SSD?

If I install my Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium on my SSD will i be able to boot up on both my HDD and SSD?
I want a clean install on my SSD but I still want all my files. Therefore I was hoping, ^^ it might be possible to transfer slowly. So i still would be able to boot up on my HDD to use a program and acess important files tied to it, if I haven't got it/them transferred/installed to my SSD yet. 🙂

By the way i have a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD 🙂

If you have two HDD's with boot records you will be able to select which you boot to each time your start.

I would not recommend this though.

The cleanest option is a full reinstall with an SSD reformat and reinstall of OS and all apps.

Since you expressed that you would prefer to keep your apps I would suggest cloning your HDD to your SSD and then performing an "upgrade install" of Windows 7 on the SSD. (Cloning Details Here and Here)

This will allow you to migrate all data to the SSD and then reinstall W7 while keeping your apps and files but starting with a fresh OS install.

If you have room on the old HD, use the migration Wizard of Windows that allows you to pick what you want to move over. Install Windows fresh on the SSD while having the original HD still hooked up. Import the migration files from the old HD and you'll be good to go. The old HD will be available to go back and get anything you may have missed.

When I got my SSD, I cloned the HDD to it. It booted perfectly. So, I then removed the HDD, wrapped it in an anti-static bag and stored it away as an ace in the hole backup or reserve drive. Works perfectly.
