I have a Plextor 24x IDE ATAPI cd burner and now the windows device manager tells me that it's a SCSI device, which it certainly isn't. The drive still reads CDs but it can't burn with Nero anymore because of the confusion. My Pioneer DVD drive also has the same SCSI issue. Any ideas what went wrong and how I can fix it?

Epox 8RDA3+
Plextor PX-w2410A
Pioneerr DVD-106s

Try updating your motherboard chipset drivers. If the problem persists, boot into Safe Mode, open Device Manager, and uninstall/delete your CD/DVD drives and your IDE controllers. Reboot and let Windows reinstall the devices.

You don't say, but are you running these drives off the MOBO connections? If you're running them from a controller card, they'll be called SCSI by Windows.

Any Windows based on the NT kernel (NT/2000/XP and up) will refer to devices as SCSI if 3rd-party mass storage controller drivers are in use. This is normal and perfectly natural, nothing to worry about.

EDIT: As far as the burning issue goes, do you have an ASPI layer installed?
