hi,
After having built lovely hardware, which is robust, and installing windows 8.1, and the inevitable churning whilst it updated itself, and having never had much to do with home/ workgroups/homegroup's etc. I fiddled, (carefully), with making my photos directory on hd drive E:\ available to Laptop in the house. During that procedure I unintentionally managed to get W8.1 Desktop to change from the initial yellowish colour to black, with icons on it, and "Personalisation" attempts to change it back to default yellowish background would not stick.
From there it was downhill all the way, explored "refreshing" W8.1, spent an entire day wading through "fixes" on the web, ALL THE WHILE, the nagging thought at the back of my mind, "....probably quicker to reinstall from scratch." (decades with Windows should have taught me, by now, that it's often quicker to reinstall than solve problems !).
Thanks MS, for another redactedplatform, that's probably wonderful if you're in with the team that built it, and can remember where the countless thousands of places where it needs to be tweaked to fix things, are located.
regards, Richard
