I don't know.

The Linux_64 SMP worked great. I can't see any slowdowns so far (I have about 2 minutes experience on the client so far

PS: this is part of what BETA is all about. Stanford is hoping for us to run it and then we tell them how it's doing.

Good luck!

We're seeing between 350-460 PPD per GHz for the Windows client. Not quite as good a Linux but it runs on 32 and 64 bit windows and you don't have to mess with VM Ware either.

Looks great... I'll give it a shot after my current pair of clients finishes their work units.

Outstanding! Fiddling with setting affinity is a pain in the ass.

I put Linux on one of my folders and have been running the SMP client well enough. I'll probably keep it since, with 5 'puters, I should have one running Linux for edification purposes at least. :)

me too. I've got the Linux SMP on one PC, two uni-processor clients on one and now the Wndows SMP on the third. (The one I use a lot..... sooooooo nice not to have to boot out of L and into Win when I want to actually USE my computer. :p )

Awesome! is the SMP client priority aware? as in, does it default to low priority like the normal client or do i have to change that in advanced settings?

As far as I can tell, it steps out of the way every bit as well as the standard client; (I have mine set to the defalut.. Idle)

What's up with this? From the Read Me file....
The account under which the client runs MUST have a password. Blank
passwords will cause the FAH cores to fail.
That blows. I guess, I'll just run 2 single core clients till this gets changed. I'm not running with a password on my computer.

mpiexec service, the thing that syncs the threads is a Microsoft thing and needs the password. I'm not sure if it will ever get changed.

I hated to make a password too, but I get about double points and only need to run one client.

Also, I'm assuimg that it's wouldn't be wise to use the smp and gpu core on the same machine. Just a single core and the gpu.

Pity it doesn't run as a service, but I can stay logged in all the time in the interest of advancing the project. It's installed and working fine (as far as I can tell); hopefully Stanford will get the kinks worked out soon. :)

That not running as a service is a killer for the dual core rig at work. If the girl who uses it can't see it, she won't accidentally shut it off. Also it's made to run on quad core rigs anyways. There's 4 clients running.

-verbosity 9 means a little more info is printed/logged, in some cases this extra info can make it easier to track-down bugs.

-forceasm have no effect on SMP-client, only in the "standard" client.

-advmethods means you'll accept wu's or science-cores in beta-testing, but, since the SMP-client itself is in beta-testing, this flag AFAIK doesn't have any effect either...

Those are extra commands you can use to customize your installation of F@H

-verbosity 9 is a command that makes the fahlog.txt include more information. the 9 means the most stuff, lower numbers mean less

-advmethods is a command that indicates your willingness to accept late Beta work units. They are not quite 'official' in that you have to have this flag included to get them.

-forceasm is a command that 'forces' the client to use highly optimized assembly code (faster) whenever a WU is designed to allow it. If you don't use this flag and your client has an abnormal shutdown, the next time it runs it will use 'standard software loops' which are very slow (but more stable)

There is a console help file that explains all of the switches (and other stuff) on the same page where you download the console client.

-Sid

PS: RD is right that -forceasm and -advmethods are irrelevant during the Beta testing (at least this part of it) of the SMP work unit. BUT unless you are very confident you will remember to add them once they do start to matter (and assuming you find out that is the case.... ) it is a good idea just to go ahead and put them in now. They'll do no harm
