Windows SMART folder deletion??

I have a networked computer to which only I have access. I had a drive with about 100+ directories (empty directories) that I used to catalog music cds that I have. Turns out that today when I went to check out the drive (as I do every day) almost all my folders were gone! The only exceptions were the folders that contained folders (which were also empty) detailing that a certain work had 2 cds.

So the listing looked something like this

- Name
- Name 1
- Name 2
- Name 3
- Name 4
- Name 5
- Name 6
-CD1
-CD2
- Name 7
- Name X
-CD1
-CD2

Now, it looks like this

-Name 6
-CD1
-CD2
- Name X
-CD1
-CD2

any ideas?? are these directories recoverable??

thx
