windows shortcuts - keeping em there

We're running computers that often have multiple users and the shortcuts are normally kept in doc+settings\All Users. However, if one of our users decides to move or delete the shortcut, it affects everyone. Is there a way to prevent shortcuts from being moved or deleted for all users?

thanks,
Charlene

You might be able to do this with a right click and then change the attributes to read only.:wine:

Yes, changing them to read only could prevent your users from deleting them. To prevent people from moving them around you could use a free utility called Wintidy, which I use. It remembers where the shortcuts are on the desktop and with a click will restore them to where they all were when you last saved the "configuration." It would be up to somebody to run Wintidy at least occasionally (after a new icon is placed on the desktop) so it has the last configuration. Wintidy will pop up after a new icon is placed and tell you that there has been a change and you should save a new configuration. I use Wintidy to restore the icon positions after I change resolution and then change it back to my preferred resolution, but it could be used to restore positions to where they were before some user hashed them around.

Why not just make them read only under the security tab? Make sure to leave them full access for admin or domain admins.
