This is a list I found of windows shortcut keys.

Task: Shortcut:

View an item's properties Alt +double-click
Delete an item without placing it in the recycle Bin Shift + Delete
Rename an item F2
Select all items Ctrl + A
Copy a file Ctrl while dragging a file
Create a shortcut Ctrl + Shift while dragging a file
Refresh a window's contents F5
Bypass Autoplay when playing a CD Shift while inserting the CD
Open Find: All Files F3
Display Find: All Files WK + F
Display Find: Computer WK + Ctrl + F
Display Help WK + F1
Display the Run command WK + R
Display the Start Menu WK
Display the System Properties dialog box WK + Pause/Break
Display Windows Explorer WK + E
Minimize or restore all windows WK + D
Minimize all open windows WK + M
Undo minimize all windows WK + Shift + M
Cycle though buttons on the task bar WK + Tab
Activate teh menu bar in programs F10
Close the window closest to you (if all part of the same program) Ctrl + F4
Close the active window Alt + F4
Display current window's system menu Alt + Spacebar
Minimize current window Alt + Spacebar + N
Maximize active window Alt + Spacebar + X
Restore active window Alt + Spacebar + R
Close Active window Alt + Spacebar + C
Display Context menu for selected item Shift + F10
Display the Start menu Ctrl + Esc
Display the system window for MDI programs Alt + (- minus sign)
Minimize all windows (when task bar is selected) Alt + M
Cycle through programs on the taskbar or windows Alt + Esc
Use Task switcher to cycle through open programs Alt + Tab
Reverse cycle through the Task switcher Alt + Shift + Tab
Open selected folder in a two-panel explorer windows Ctrl + Shift + Enter


In an Explorer Window:

Open an item's Context menu Application Key
Close all My Computer windows Shift + click the X
Move backward to a previous view Alt + Left Arrow
Move forward to a previous Alt + Right Arrow
View the folder one level up Backspace
Select parent folder Left Arrow
Collapsed the current selection if the folder is expanded Left Arrow
Collapse the selected folder Num Lock + (- minus sign)
Expand the current selection if it's collapsed Right Arrow
Select the first subfolder Right Arrow
Expand all folders below the current selection Num Lock + (* asterisk)
Expand the selected folder Num Lock + (+ plus sign)
Switch among left and right panes and menu bars F6


In a dialog box:

Display help F1
Cancel the current task Esc
Move through the options Tab
Move backward through the options Shift + Tab
Click on the highlighted button Spacebar or Enter
Select or clear a highlighted check box Spacebar
Click on highlighted option Spacebar
Move through tabs Ctrl + Tab
Move backward through tabs Ctrl + Shift + Tab
In a "Save as" or "Open" dialog box, open a folder one level up Backspace
In a "Save as" or "Open" dialog box, open the address bar F4
Refresh the Window F5

I wonder if you could make shortcut icons for all those commands. And just for the hell of it, I'd put all of them on my desktop. :)

A friend of mine knew I liked the shortcut keys so when he found this he sent it to me.

Another one: in IE, click on a window then press the spacebar. It'll perform a PageDown. I find it handy as spacebar is much closer to my left hand than the PgDn key.

I saw a guy close the start button on win95 one time. He didn't mess with the wallpaper or resize the taskbar. There was a taskbar with no start button. Restarting Explorer got it back. Anybody know the key combination for that?

I saw it myself, I'm not lying.

jellybaby: the spacebar acts like a page down in netscape also...i did this on accident once...wonder WTF just happened...took me a week before i figured it out...hehe
