i am currently using the dist.ru version of litestep... but it hasnt had active development in like 3 years, and is full of bugs.

i'm gonna be reformatting in not too long now... is there any recently updated litestep-esque shell replacements for windows XP?

Litestep is good, I use Astonshell, which isn't free but is updated frequently. Well worth the money. I can't stand using a PC with the default windows shell. Flyakite is interesting, it basically tries to mimic the OSX desktop, it looks pretty good, I ran it for a month. Didn't notice any glaring bugs.
