Putting together a new rig...

All is well until the Windows setup says that it can not find a hard drive.

During POST, it shows the Seagate SATA 1.5 250gb as the primary drive.

Any thoughts?

*Edit*

Further in the manual I find that it says...

*Install Windows XX before using the Serial ATA feature

*Make sure to install the SIS RAID drivers before using the Serial ATA connectors.

Does this mean that Windows has to be installed on a IDE hard drive?

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but are you sure you have the SATA drive plugged into the native SATA ports and not the Silicon image ones? That board should not need SATA drivers to install windows, NF4 has native SATA support.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the new rig is not the rig in my sig. This is with an ASUS micro atx board (forget the model, its not my rig).

I did discover that the RAID driver had to be loaded from the cd that came with the board. Guess I was spoiled with my A8N-SLI Deluxe.

There are a couple ways to fix this. If you look into the motherboard box for your new rig, you may find a floppy disk with the SATA drivers that you need. With this you can press F6 at the beginning of the Windows loading screen. It will ask if you'd like to install any 3rd party drivers, etc. When this screen finishes it will find the SATA drivers on the floppy and you can install from there.

I have read(yet to my experience it does not always work!) that with an XP Service Pack 2 install disc, the drivers are included. And with this disc drivers do not need to be loaded. I had a friend I've seen do this with a SATA Raptor drive. He booted up and the Windows XP SP2 disc recognized it right off.

Good luck! Keep up updated!
