Windows services stopped working!

Hi. Recently when I turned on my computer, a lot of the usual startup programs didn't start, and after looking into msconfig and task manager, a lot of the usual programs weren't working or were "stopped". For ex. NIS 2006, Registry mechanic, SysMetrix, and others which always turn on, weren't on. I also installed HL2 and Nero 7 the same day. Any ideas why they stopped. I did a virus and spyware scan, and nothing! Please help!

Odd, looks like it's running in SAFE MODE. It's not, is it? If you go to CONTROL PANEL>ADMIN TOOLS>SERVICES, what are they set to, ie automatic, manual, or disabled?

Ok thanks. I got no idea if its starting in safe mode. It looks just like any other startup. Here are the links to the services page. A lot of them are set to manual.

I hope you can get me some further help. I don't want to reinstall Windows...

I just don't understand how that could have happened. You better check your system for a virus. Here's the next step, use Black Vipers old website on XP services HERE.. Go thru each service and set it according to what he lists as DEFAULT.
