Windows Server 'essential' apps (security, mgmt, etc)

Hi Guys,

I'm curious if anybody has any 'essential' apps they install on their Windows based servers.

Malware, antivirus, etc.

I know many of the freebies only work on the desktop OS's.. not the server based ones.

Let's say you had a Windows 2008 Standard Server running IIS, what would you demand be installed?

I usually try to install as few programs as I need to keep things simpler and so there will tend to be fewer problems. I try to avoid adobe flash and reader on servers as well as java.
Definitely install an antivirus! i've had good luck with System Center Endpoint Protection 2012

Thanks. That's kind of what I'm looking at.

Most freebie security programs, or even cheap ones, won't work on Server versions so I'm not familiar with what's hot right now.

putty, teracopy, notepad++, backup software, foxit reader, everything, maybe 7zip, virtual clone drive, windirstat
