so I started working for an IT consulting company about 8 months ago, and about 2 months ago when one of our senior guys left I was given one of his contract customers to maintain.
I'm getting along ok, though some of what they have is over my head we have other people familiar with their setup if I need help.
but what's bugging the hell out of me is the state of backups being done there. generally my company pitches symantec products for doing backups...but the way these are set up are, to me, a huge pain in the ass.
some servers run backup exec and manage a few other backups
some servers run besr2011 and manage a few others
some servers are standalone backups
i need to get a handle on what they have, after finding out this week that some things arent working right, some arent reporting right, etc but id also like to look into something centrally managed/reporting for backups. this client has a lot of physical and VM servers and they way things are set up and spread out is...annoying, to say the very least
my knowledge of the symantec product is not terribly in depth, but what are people using to do centrally managed/monitored backups for windows servers? id love to try and move towards *anything* better than the clusterfuck I am dealing with now.
