Windows Server 2008 CAL Licensing

Per seat = I need a CAL for every user that wants to logon the server (domain?)
Per device = I need a CAL for every machine that wants to logon the server (domain?)

I searched for CAL's and I've read what's on microsoft.com but I think my question is too basic hehe.

You can do one or the other or a mix. You are not required to have both to cover users and computers.
