Hi guys. Just need some help. Our workers came into work and the system was down. They said the server was extremely hot and making loud sounds- they thought someone next door was drilling a hole. Now im not expert so i need some help....

Ive saved some event logs- do you guys think you could look at them and see if you can see what possibly happened?

Which logs would you like? System and application?

Many thanks

If the server is making any kind of odd noises I'd look at the hardware before even considering the software.

my guess is that something is overheating or a fan broke down or something like that. also maybe the ventilation has gotten worse

That's almost certainly a hardware problem. If it's a Dell or other pre-built box, you may still have a warranty on it. Dell servers, for instance, have a one- to three-year warranty.

If it is making sounds that aren't coming out of a speaker then it's a hardware issue. It's probably either one of the system fans gone or the voltage regulator causing things to go haywire.

yeh im guessing it was hardware- but it seems to be working fine now. im only going on what the workers have said it was doin when they got their in the morning.

i get access to the logs tomorrow- would the logs be able to show what piece of hardware crashed it?

If it's a Dell or HP with their management stuff installed then the eventlog might have something and the software might have a separate log with more information as well.
