I just built a new system, and had no idea I need to purchase a decoder card in addition to a DVD player to watchs DVDs. Is there some software I can use instead?

You don't need a decoder card (that is if your machine is faster than 350MHz). Just get WinDVD or PowerDVD and you'll be good to go.

Power DVD will work. You should have gotten a software player with your DVD drive or possibly with your video card (Nvidia and ATI both have DVD software).
