Hello I was asked to fix a comp for a friend because it?s acting strange. Whenever you go to shutdown in windows XP to shut down the computer instead of shutting down it will reset the computer like you go to the reset option. It just started doing this today and the only software installed recently was Roxio's easy CD Creator which I uninstalled thinking that might have had something to do with it.
Other areas I checked for was scanning for viruses with Norton Antivirus with up to date definitions and I checked to make sure that all the critical updates for windows were installed which they were.
Lastly I installed mbm5 to check the voltages of the PSU and those seem to be fine. I had to check that way because I don?t have any multi-meter PSU testing equipment.
I'm now at a loss as to what?s causing this problem. Is it software or hardware related who knows? The PSU in that system is a A+GPB 400watt PSU. Never heard of them but the supply it seems to be heavy and of good build quality except for the external fan that is making a bit of a rattling noise.
Other hardware in the system is an athlon64, gigabyte mobo, ati radeon 9600 pro, western digital 120gb sata, sony dvd-+rw burner, 3 case fans.
Overall the system seems to be in good working order except for that problem. It can?t be any older then a few months either so there hasn?t been time for dust to collect on it yet. Strange :/
