Windows Protection Error. You need to restart your computer. System Halted. ???

i get this error sometimes when i go to shutdown my Windows ME final version. my specs are below. i also run a adaptec scsi card for my cd-r it's the 2930cu.

It may be related to the fact that you are overclocking. Try going back to the default speed and see if the problem goes away.

Also, did you do a clean install of win ME or did you install it over a previous version of windows?

You said that you just reinstalled all your software. Did the problem happen before all the software was installed, or is it possible that one of your programs is causing the fault.

What version of video drivers do you have? If it is in the 6.XX series from Nvidia, this is a know problem.

If it bugs you a lot, go back to the 5.xx series.

Detoyminador_,I had the same sort of problem when I installed a new motherboard(happened on the second day of the new installed board)mine was when booting up could not get into safe mode or windows kept getting windows protection error,I fixed my problem by reinstalling Win98 on top of itself(like a upgrade)& it kept all my software intact apart from Directx7a (I just reinstalled that)& since then 100% rock stable.

It is not a shutdown problem with the OS. It is a known problem with the Nvidia Detonator 6.xx series drivers.

Yup, it must be the drivers, because I'm getting the same problem with Win ME and those drivers, and I have very different hardware. I'm using Duron 650 (Not overclocked - yet) ABit KT7, 256 MB PC 133, Elsa Gladiac Geforce SDR... I recently upgraded to the 6.26 drivers that are floating around (not on Nvidia's site yet) and that solved most of the problems. It still happens every now and then though... Oh well...

i've ditched the 6.18 drivers and am now running the 5.22 drivers, so far so good no protction falt yet. i also noticed a fps increase in botgh quake-2 and quake-3 by going back 2 these drivers.
