Unable to boot up in Wndows 98 Se and Windows Me( not dual boot ), keep getting windows protection error message after installing large program and getting BSOD concerning VXD files. Able to boot in safe mode without problems. Formated three times and went from Windows Me to Windows 98 Se and problem not resolved, tried microsoft website troubleshooting but no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Might be a possible hardware problem?

System specs:

2 x 128MB Kingston SDRAM
60 GB WDC
18 GB WDC

Intel i810 video chipset(disable)

You usually can google the exact error message or at least part of it to get an idea. Had one of these today on my ME machine after installing mccaffe. I did the safe mode thing and disabled the vxd in msconfig. That cleared it up. I was able to reboot normallt, but not network. Removed mcafee and I was fine.

COuld also be a hardware conflict, but you are never going to know that in safe mode.

Yup. I had a similar issue once and found out (via google) that Zonealarm was causing the problem after I took out my NIC. Uninstalled ZA and I was able to boot into Windows again.
