My son has fiddled with the registry on my system, and now I cannot launch programs by using the shortcut icons. I can launch from the run command only. When trying to launch using a shortcut, I get the message "...is not a valid Win32 application. Can anyone tell me how to repair the registry to correct this problem? I tried reinstalling Windows, but that didn't work.

It maybe to late to fix after the reinstall, but you can try:

boot computer, press F8, and choose Command Prompt.
At the C:\ prompt, type scanreg /restore
