Windows Phone expandable to 32GB

I'm eager to get a WP7 device, but I'm stuck on my iPhone until I can find a device that can support my 22GB music library.

Any suggestions? Should I move my library into the cloud--and if so, what clouds are well-integrated enough to use as a primary media player? Most of my music is private stuff (local bands, college shows, etc.) not available in iTunes/Zune/Spotify libraries.

I also have a Windows Home Server 2011, but I'm not sure if there's any mature music streaming apps for that platform yet (and I'd really rather use local storage).

The original Focus has a microsd slot that works with some SD cards, including some 32gb ones. It has 8gb normally which gives it total of 40. AFAIK none of the newer phones have a microsd slot or more than 16Gb of storage onboard.

You might try subsonic.
I use it to stream my entire 2TB+ catalog to my mobile devices. In my experience, it works flawlessly, though it can be a little bit of effort to initially set up the server side. Once you have it working, it's highly worth donating for a full licence so you can enjoy all the features.

I run it off a Linux NAS, but it's reported to work with WHS 2011.
You can try it free, so give it a shot and see if it works for you.

As for mobile clients- I love iSub on iOS, and the Subsonic client for Android. I'm not sure about a WP7 client though. Otherwise, it should work browser-based.

have you ever had server timeout errors? i have a fairly large music collection (180gb) and would get frequent timeouts, even though my network/port forwarding was set up perfectly. I last tried subsonic a few months ago, maybe it has been fixed since then.

I had issues with timeouts when I was first setting subsonic up- several versions ago, almost two years. For me, the problems were all with my server setup. I know I changed subsonic's port from 80 to 8080 and port-forwarded both UDP and TCP requests to that port.

Because I have a huge database, I upped subsonic's memory use from 128MB to 512MB.

Also I've seen timeouts when I'm in really spotty 3G coverage areas- but it's usually clear that it's the phone's connection not my subsonic server. Most times for me it works perfectly- traveling or at home- so long as I have a decent connection. For me, it hasn't been an issue needing correction with a new version of subsonic. I would tend to suspect that you still have a configuration problem somewhere, or it could be an issue with the client software or device.

It's definitely a PITA setting up the subsonic server initially for non-networking gurus (like me). I had to do quite a bit of fiddling with DNS and port-fowarding etc. to get it working right, but ever since no problems, so it was well worth it. There's a lot of documentation for troubleshooting subsonic that I leaned on when I set up my server.

I'm 100% sure it's not a networking issue, because subsonic can and does retrieve the top level folders very quickly and with 100% reliability. It's only when I try to browse to the largest folders that I would get the timeouts. Random play would also work perfectly. It wasn't cell reception either, as remote desktop to my computer worked perfectly at the same time/location.

Going to try upping the memory usage to 512mb or more, thanks for that tip.
