I'm not talking about streaming or downloading. I'm talking about listening to large MP3s that I've writen to the microSDHC card in my smartphone.

I'm listening to long MP3s on my new Nokia Lumia 520. By long I mean 3 hours long. I'd like the ability to manage my experience beyond pause. For example, FF/Rew with variable speeds, possibly setting A<-->B replay of specified segments, specifying a point within an MP3 to return to, being able to return to where I was in an MP3 last time I stopped playing it, even after shutting off the phone.

Is this possible?

I was going to ask this at Howard Forums, but it won't accept posts from me for some reason. I joined there in 2009. I am able to sign in but not start a thread, nor post in other people's threads. I did a search on Howard Forums contact and came up with this: http://www.howardforums.com/sendmessage.php

But when I post my problem there I get this:

Any idea what I can do with that? I'm just hung out to dry at Howard Forums.

Podcast app? I'll give it a look when my 521 comes tomorrow.

I found some stuff, one good thread is Audio Book Reader??? = thread at WPCentral

Actually, having tried it now a few times, I'm so far pleased with the FF action I'm getting with the Nokia 520. Still haven't got the stop/shutdown/resume support I want, but the above thread has some posts by Guzzler3 that explain how to set up podcast play in Windows Phone 8. It's surprisingly complex, but this guy clearly knows what he's doing. It necessitates installing Windows app for Desktop on a Win7 or Win8 machine and setting up a library, then syncing with the phone. Net result is tranfer of files from the desktop (I assume this can be a laptop) to the phone and podcast support including the functionality I want. I haven't done it yet. I posted there asking if I could have the original files on a network drive. He said he thought maybe but thinks I should just have the files on the "desktop" to start just to get my feet on the ground.
