windows permissions

I made an image with Arconis Trueimage of a buddies laptop because it was really hosed. I figured he may as well start over, and that this was the easiest way to backup his data. However, I have a problem. When I get to his documents and settings user folder, I don't have permissions. It shows the numerical representation of what I assume was his xp account. How do I take ownership or override this so I can copy out his files? Can I add that user manually to my machine somehow? Thanks.

The problem is that I don't have permission to take ownership or edit the permissions. His UID and SYSTEM are the only things with any rights to the files.

Did you follow the instructions on that link to take ownership first?

When I go to the owner tab an error box pops up and says I only have permissions to view the current owner.

I was thinking I could somehow manually add his UID to my machine and then log into that to backup the files. Maybe this isn't possible.

I suppose I could also write the partition out to my HD and then try to modify the permissions. Perhaps because I just have the disk image virtually mounted to a drive letter with acronis it won't let me edit permissions. I'll try this and post again if that doesn't work out.
