Windows page file refuses to move

I used Tweak to move my page file to a separate drive - drive Z. It created a file named pagefl1 which was never accesed. It didn't get rid of the page file still sitting on C. After a reboot and some usage, the page file on C was still being updated, while the other one hadn't been touched.

After nuking tweak, I tried to change it through windows. I have it set to no page file on C, and a 2 gig file on Z... the file is STILL sitting on C. Any suggestions?

edit: I now have two page files, one on Z where I want it, and one on C. Both were updated on my last reboot. I just can't seem to get rid of the one on C.

I don't know why you used tweak, but you can change your pagefile settings in System Properties->Advanced->Performance Options->"Change" under Virtual Memory.

That's for win2k, I'm not sure about XP since I don't have access to an XP box at home.

Ditto. Also exactly how much RAM do you have? The pagefile most likely is not accessed enough for placement to matter much at all.

I have a gig. I figured since it was a fresh install and I had 2 drives I might as well move the pagefile onto a scratch disk partition with my firefox cache and temp directories. AsianriceX, I'm not sure why I tried tweak either. I'm changing the settings where you've indicated though. I just gave up and set it back to C, and it's working fine now. Oh well, I'll live. Thanks for the help all.

I believe you will have to Startup and Recovery and disable the memory dump to get rid of the pagefile on C. You will then have to remove it manually.

OK it's easier than that and very logical.
1. Go to Control Panel.
2. Go to SYSTEM
3. Go to ADVANCED
4. Go to PERFORMANCE
5. Go to SETTINGS
6. Go to ADVANCED
7. Go to VIRTUAL MEMORY
8. Go to CHANGE
9. Set your new Page File where ever you want it, to include size limits if desired.
10. Check the NO PAGE File spot for C:\ Drive.

That should do it. It's been that way generally since Win95.
