Tyan Tiger 100 motherboard (BX Chipset, AMIBIOS)
Windows 98SE

Hi All,
A weird problem that I've not seen with any other motherboard.
This Tyan's the first AMIBIOS board I've owned too (and probably the
last at this rate..)

OK, with PartitionMagic I've got a dual set-up of Windows98 SE.
In one Windows configuration - my normal one - I use my Modem, Printer,
Scanner etc., and they're connected to the Serial and Parallel ports.
I use the other Windows boot, 'Audio', for intensive MIDI/Audio
sequencing and stuff - PartitionMagic is much recommended in such
a context.

In this Audio partition I've disabled all the above devices and their
respective ports (in Device Manager) in order to free up IRQ's and
resources and to lessen the chance of conflicts with the various Audio
and MIDI devices I've got installed. AMIBIOS has the COM and Parallel
port's enabled, it's only in the 'Audio' config Device Manager I have
them disabled - the idea being that when I want to surf, print, scan
etc., I boot into the normal config. and when I need to work with
audio/MIDI apps, I boot into the Audio config - the one with the stuff
disabled in Device Manager.

Anyway, what should be a simple process of restarting after using
the Audio config and booting into the normal config isn't because
if I do, the Modem, Printer, Scanner etc., don't work - the
normal Windows partition can't see them on account of the fact that
the ports they're connected to are disabled in the BIOS, even though
they've been set and saved to enabled. Device Manager, in the Audio
config, overwrites the settings and once they're 'invisible', Windows
in the normal config doesn't see them. This means that after
every time I use the Audio boot config. I have to hit delete on POST,
go into AMIBIOS, change settings in 'Peripheral Set-up' and only then
can I boot into the normal config and have everything working normally
...which is a right fiddly pain when you have to change config several
times a day.

What I've tried: disabling NVRAM/ESCD updates in Windows
disabling PnP aware OS in BIOS
disabling ACPI/APM " "
disabling IRQ steering in Windows
fresh and reinstalled Windows
virus checked and cleared CMOS etc.,..
...and every permutation of the above imaginable.

Needless to say, after three emails to both Tyan, I've not yet had
one reply and AMIBIOS - American Megatrends - only offer support if it's
one of their motherboards you're using...

Thanks in advance,
Ade
