Windows open shifted right and down

I am running Windows XP with SP3. One machine has started exhibiting a strange behavior. If I open a window -- say by starting a piece of software such as the antivirus, the window that opens is shifted to the right and down so that the buttons in the upper right to minimize, close etc. are not visible. Dragging the left boundary does not correct the problem. I either have to go to Windows Task Manager -- or in some instances right click on the entry in the task bar to either minimize or close the page. Seems that everything is affected this way.

Anyone ever see such a strange behavior -- and if so how did you get rid of it? I think it must be related to cascading windows -- which I have never done. At least not knowingly.

Thanks billb2

That does open a box with the desired controls -- and is simpler than what I have been doing. I don't know why one machine out of four has suddenly started displaying windows this way. As I said, it is probably a check that got made in some box to cascade windows instead of having the most recently opened window occupy the whole space. I will continue to look for a way to get this machine to behave like the others. Thanks again though.

It's frustrating. I had that problen once and can't remember the fix, only that it was a simple key press combination.
