so i have a 250gb drive

i just put in the xp install disk

when i go to the format screen, it only shows the drive as being 131gb or so

now that im done w/ install, it still is only showing up as that much

i have latest bios, and a high-end rig.

wtf is going on??

the first time i tried xp with this computer, it recognized it all. now that i reinstalled, why isnt?

btw i installed it with a 80gb harddrive connected as well if this makes any difference.

SP2 is needed for drives larger than 132GB. Unfortunately that means when installing with a pre-SP2 CD you can't get all the space. 3 things you can do to fix this:
1) Have 2 partitions, one for windows and then partition and format the rest after installing SP2 and have 2 logical drives
2) slipstream SP2 into your XP CD (I don't know how to do that though)
3) burn a copy of a friend's SP2 XP CD matching what you have (Home, Pro, Media center - make sure it is a retail CD not OEM from a dell or something) and use your key with that.

A friend of mine did #3, I gave him a copy of my SP2 CD and he used his code and everything was fine, activation and all.

ends up i had two copies of xp. one had sp1, one didnt have anything. the first one i tried was the one that didnt have anything, so obviously it didnt recognize the whole 250. i did a clean reinstall w/ the sp1 disk and voila!
