Awesome, I was just thinking about how inconvenient it is that you can't view RAW thumbnails in windows explorer.

I've been viewing thumbnails of NEF files for years in Windows Explorer. One of the Benefits of Windows Live Photo Gallery was that once it generated thumbnails for itself, they also applied to Windows Explorer.

ORLY? Even the Windows Team Blog says it's new.

Hmm it might be a new all in one pack. But I remember installing the specific codec to view my pentax raw files with the windows 7 built in picture viewer a while back.
Here's a link from 2009 that shows you how to do it.

Maybe the new one is a lot faster. But I remember I ended up using bridge to browse raw files since it was so much quicker. And bridge is known to be slow and buggy.

Pentax has had an x86-only codec available for at least a couple years now.
First party and x64 compatible is a new development.

It was x64 at least. I've been using x64 windows for at least as long as I've had my DSLR.

Blah, I don't really like bickering about this. It's kind of besides the point. The update was a good update anyways :)

But I did found the installation file for the raw codec, and mine was from 2008, and is 8.1MB, so it's an older version than the current one. So either I used 32-bit windows for much longer than I remembered, or pentax rolled back x64 support o_O
My memory is probably just messing with me. It was too long ago :p

No Panasonic RW2 support either(Lumix LX5).

No Canon S95
Nice when you find out the CR2 files from the S95 are different from the CR2 files from older cameras like the 20D and only supported by Photoshop CS5.

Since I got my Lumix LX5, I've been using the Adobe DNG converter on a regular basis. I bought the Fast Picture Codec Pack to view RAW files in Windows.
