Make sure the BIOS is configured correctly. For example, make sure you are running on a 133mhz FSB and not a 100mhz FSB.

Hope that helps, my XP 1900+ did the same thing. The MSI KT3 Ultra came default running 100mhz FSB and the system reported my XP 1900+ as an Athlon 1.2 GHZ :)

Also make sure his system has been flashed with the latest BIOS available for it.

What mobo is it?

Athlon mobo's will always default to 100MHz bus. The mobo manufacturer deosn't know what you'll be running, Duron or Athlon. So to avoid smoking a duron with a default of 133MHz bus, they set the default to 100MHz, then expect you to change it to match your cpu.

What he said. :) If the bios does not support the latest cpu, then it will read it incorrectly. Most likely all that is needed is the latest bios update.

I don't think that I bios update is needed. He is running on the 100mhz FSB rather than the 133mhz FSB. 1350x1.3=1755mhz (xp 2200+)

I just upgraded to a XP 2100+ last week. My motherboard has a jumper on it to select 100/133. When I first installed, I forgot about it and windows said I had a XP 1500+

I read the mobo manual and found the jumper, took it off, hung it off one pin, and now it works perfectly, and I'm running at a full 1.73 GHz.

I have a MSI turbo2 motherboard by the way...
