Windows Movie Maker Problem

GoingUp

Lifer
Windows Movie Maker version 2.1 running in Windows XP pro. I have some captured MPEG2 video that I want to reencode into a WMV to show my parents. It won't encode the movie. Windows Movie Maker just crashes.

What codec do I need to get this thing working?

Do you use ffdshow (you'd know if you did)? In Windows Media Encoder, ffdshow (both video and audio codecs) crashes when I load MPEG-2 files. If you do use ffdshow, make sure that MPEG-2 for video decode is disabled as well as whatever audio codec that file uses is disabled in ffdshow.

No idea what youre talking about. How do I disable it?

What did you encode the video with?

I had a problem with anything I encoded from my ATI capture card. It would simply crash Movie Maker 2.1

I don't know. I heard this guy's site might have something on how to fix that problem though:
http://www.papajohn.org/

Here is the page that had the solution (404 now) on archive.org:
http://web.archive.org/web/200402210731...n/Website-MM2/MM2-Importing-Video.html

And this decoder is supposed to allow MM2 to do it:
http://www.ligos.com/gomotion.htm

Not sure where you get the decoder though...

Yea. I cant find the decoder to download or buy anywhere 🙁

Try Videohelp.com for a decoder in the utilities area. PapaJohn will swear it works (MPEG in WMM), but not for a lot of people.
