Note: I fixed the problem myself, sorry for the inconvenience
I have an HP iPAQ, unknown model, and I'm trying to get it to speak to an IBM Thinkpad T30 laptop running XP Pro. I can get them both on the same wireless network, but the iPAQ can't ping or connect to the IP of the laptop.
I've manually configured both IPs
Laptop: 192.168.0.1 - subnet mask 255.255.255.0
PDA: 192.168.0.2 - same
I've also tried setting the Default Gateway on the PDA to the laptop's IP address.
Both computers will show that they're connected to the wireless network.
The laptop cannot ping the PDA, and vice versa. There is no firewall set up on the laptop.
The PDA's network settings are set for "The Internet" and it is not set up to use a proxy.
To test connectivity, IIS is running on the laptop, and the laptop can see the web site when I browse locally. The PDA, when I try to use Internet Explorer, says the connection was "lost" instead of just that the site could not be found. I do not think either one is constantly dropping/reconnecting, because viewing the status windows always indicates they've been connected for a while, and never changes.
Any ideas?
edit: I just tried it with the same (apparently) model but with Windows Mobile 2003 (4) and it just now connected to the network and was able to connect to the laptop just fine.
However I am totally unfamiliar with all things PDA, so I don't know what settings to check to see why it's not working in Windows Mobile 5. I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks
edit2: I simply made a new wireless network for the computers to communicate with. All fixed. The whole friggin setup drove me nuts for 6 hours though.
