Windows messenger will not go away!!I have it disabled in services, I shut it off with msconfig (everytime I start up my computer), I've used a sepereate startup tool to disable it, but still, every time I start up my computer it's there! It doesn't show up in the toolbar, but usually someone will sign in or message me and it pops up and I see it, and have to end it with processes in ctrl+alt+del.
I don't know what to do!This happened on my old computer too, but eveuntally it would stop opening but that doesn't seem to be the case now...it won't go away!!
Does anyone know what to do?

This should be posted in "Operating systems", but anyway... Just do a search for msmsgs.exe, then rename any msmsgs.exe files windows finds. Windows can't run it then.

This is what I did, as I tried everything else you described first. Anyway, upon reboot, you won't have any messenger, in the task manager, or tray. ;)

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Paste that in to a "Run" dialog box and it will disappear, permanently.

After trying to do it your way for a while, and getting pissed off because I was getting no results, I found a very simple way to do it. All I had to do was go into the program, the options, and un-select "Start when computer turns on" or something similar to that. Presto, easier than you think hehe.

Actually, I did that. It wasn't in the systray then, but it was still taking up RAM in the task manager. I'll bet it's still running, and using RAM in your task manager.

goto add remove programs, then to windows components then uncheck windows messenger. and just make sure if you do any updates for windows software you don't reinstall it.

It will continue to launch as a background task if you use OE. Open the registry, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express, creat a new dword labeled Hide Messenger and give it a value of 2.

That's what I do. Works fine.
