I'm having major problems getting Windows to see my Microsoft (Nokia) Lumia 520 Windows 8.1 phone. A help page indicates that if Windows Media Player 11 is installed, the phone should be seen.

Microsoft's online info says I have Windows Media Player 12 installed automatically with this Windows 7 (Ultimate) machine. However, I can't find it anywhere! Not in Start/Programs, I don't see it as an option to play an MP3 file. I don't see anywhere online I can download WMP from Microsoft. Where is it? How can I be sure it's installed on this machine? Usually WMP pops up when I try to play media files if I haven't installed something else. In this case I do have winamp installed and VLC and some other stuff.

Hit the windows key+r on your keyboard. When the run box pops up type wmplayer.exe then hit enter.
That should start wmp for you.

EDIT:the file path on my 8.1 x64 machine is C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe. It might be different on 7 though.
