Windows Media Player: Totally Busted

I have Windows 7 64-bit, and a few months ago, WMP just stopped working. When I open it, I get a blank window with the little loading circle cursor. I can kill the program, but the process keeps running, and if I kill the process, it immediately restarts. Microsoft Security Essentials hangs on wmplayer.exe during it's regular scans.

I've done the troubleshooting steps that Microsoft recommends. I have to restart in safe mode in order to keep wmplayer.exe from opening. Then I can run their troubleshooter, and it says my library is corrupt and resets it. So then WMP works for a day or two. But soon enough it's back to being frozen and hanging up MSE. I have two other WMP machines that access the same library of files, and neither of them have this problem. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the WMP "feature" from the control panel.

I have version 12.0.7601.17514.

I can't be the only person having this problem, right?
