Windows media player problem with 2 monitors

When I extend the windows desktop to the second monitor, I can't play movies. I either get a black screen (no matter which monitor it's on) or I get this error:

The operation cannot be performed because the pins are not connected

Does anyone know a fix. I did a web search without any luck.
