my mouse freezes or lags and nothing can be opened or closed. it takes a while to get wmp to close. I'm using windows xp and wmp 9.

edit: something that started around the same time is my mouse pointer sometimes gets extra pixels to the side of it.

I believe I got one through windows update. nothing other than that though.

edit: and divx and mpeg2, but I don't think those qualify as packs.

Mine started doing this after I reinstalled Windows... odd that with the exact same WMP 9 setup with the same codecs and the same updates does this.... WMP 10 is very slow for me, but I get no crashes with it. Hopefully someone figures this out :(, I only use Windows Media Player for movies, because it is well the best thing on Windows for it. Winamp and Real suck for video.

Actually I have thought of something.... do you have a Radeon, mine has Windows Media Video Acceloration.... and well I also installed that after the change.... that could be it if you have one as well....

I would try a different media player, such as JetAudio Basic, Zoom Standard, or Media Player Classic. If .wmv files work in those, then there's something wrong with WMP and it need to be repaired/reinstalled. If those also fail, then there's a problem with the .wmv decoder or with your .wmv files.

I think maybe I'll just uninstall then reinstall wmp.
