windows media player grief

Lemon law

Lifer
I have windows media player 11 installed and a cmedia 8738 soundcard which may not have support for spdif.

After installing windows media player and opening it up---the first grief is a syc program that pops up unasked for and asks if I want to syc some unspecified external device to my computer--something I have no desire or reason to do.

But windows media player 11 will play a standard music cd fine---but if I download a perfectly legal song from download.com---windows media player will not play it.---but the real alternatives player will play it just fine.

But my main bitch is after downloading urge--and finally getting a streaming radio player option to go with windows media player 11--the mentally retarded media player won't let me even listen to public domain stations like NPR.
After selecting play a given listed station I get an unspecified error message---like I may not have a sound card installed---or I don't have sap---or that my sound card may be in use by another program. Even if its not.---at this point I am clueless on how to fix these problems.---or to even know with any specitivity what is wrong---as usual---microsoft help is worthless-- I do have the latest cmedia 8738 drivers installed..
