I just built my new computer. Everything went very well but when i tried to play a file in windows media player, my whole system freezes. Here are the specs of the computer... did i do something wrong?

Transcend Al Magic DDR chipset Mobo
256 crucial ddr
3 - 40 gig maxtors
1 - 60 gig WD
Win2k
Windows media player 6.4

1. Im using windows 2000 as stated above

2. No my processor is not overclocked

3. My system has not crashed any other time

4. And no, my computer has not burned in

Ok, when no video drivers are loaded i can play files fine in WMP. But when i load the 12.9 or 12.41, WMP freezes anytime i play a file. I tried using 6.5 and 7.52 but win2k says that it wont use a older version.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Moved from the software forum to here cus i wasnt getting enough responses there.

Format hard drive, install Linux.

Windows sucks. Congratulations for discovering this on your own.

Ok, i found it. The problem was the directx 8. I went back to directx 7 and now it works fine. Anyone use directx 8 with win2k and WMP working?

I had the same problem you had with media player. It was my sound drivers. Just thought I'd let ya know. Pretty damn frustrating though...
