Windows Media Player Crashes Computer

Here is what happened...
I got a new case for my comp, an ASUS Vento, and I moved all my hardware into that case. Upon rebooting everything was fine. Until I tried to watch an mpg video file. What happens is I hear the audio from the file, but no video. Then WMP locks up (at the time I was using version 9) and when I ctrl-alt-delete to end program, the audio stutters three times and then my computer locks up completely and i have to hard reboot.
I tried installing version 10 of wmp and that didnt work. So I needed to reinstall windows anyways, I got a Hauppage tuner card and wanted Media Center edition installed. So I did that, fresh install, and upon trying to open a video file it still does the SAME THING! I thought it was a software problem, but now I'm suspecting it may be hardware. I can open video files in Media Center (which is strange) but opening them in WMP10 is not working. Anyone have any ideas?

Here's a quick summary of my machine:
Asus A7N8X Mobo
Barton 2800+ set at 166 and 12.5x in the bios
1 gb micron ram (2 x 512)
Radeon 9800 pro agp running 2 lcd monitors (1 off dvi, 1 off vga)
Turtle Beach santa cruz
Realtek pci 10/100 ethernet card
Promise IDE ata66 card (nothing running on it at the moment)

Yes, I've tried videos off every hard drive, tried avi, mpg, mpeg, even wmv and all crash my comp in Windows Media Player. I have tried unplugging my secondary monitor, I've tried reinstalling WMP, I've tried unplugging every unnecessary component in my computer, and still to no avail. Any other ideas?

Try updating your video drivers? And just so we're clear, have you tried other media players, like winamp?

I have the newest ATI Drivers installed and I tried winamp and it does the same thing as Media Player, it plays audio and shows no video, and then hangs, and upon ending the process, it locks up my computer

It doesnt seem like this is a software problem since I have completely reinstalled everything. Yet all of my hardware was fine before I moved it from my old case to my new one. The only thing that changed during the move was that I removed a Zip Drive and an old CD burner I had installed.
I'm not sure if this would have anything to do with it, but when I opened up the first video after the case change, it opened on my secondary monitor (run on a VGA cable) and WMP typically opens in my main monitor (run on a DVI cable). Would that have caused a problem?

Ok, well if anyone else has this problem, REMOVE THE PROMISE IDE PCI CARD! That thing's been nothing but problems for me, and after I took it out I can now watch movies again...
