Ok I run windows media player 64bit and use cccp codec's. now when I play an mkv file sometimes it skips about every 5mins for about 20 sec or so. I dont know why it does this and would really like an answer. if theres more info thats needed please let me know.

Is it only mkv files ? It could be another program using the drive while the file is playing. Shut down all other applications and see if it continues.

On win7 the only thing you need to play back 99% of most files, if you are not dependent on subtitles, is AC3 filter and MKV splitter, all the codec pack stuff isn't needed and is actually not using a lot of the functions that were added to win7 for media support. The codecs in codec packs are direct show based which MS is phasing out in favor of Media Foundation.

You are running WMP 64-bit but AFAIK, cccp uses 32-bit ffdshow filters.

WMP probably isn't even using ffdshow. Try a 32-bit player

Download the 64-bit version of ffdshow tryouts and stay away from codec packs, even CCCP.

FFDshow tryouts, haali media splitter and gabest flv (and maybe MPC-HC) splitter are all you need to play just about any video/audio file out there.

I think CCCP should be fine as long as you use the betas. It typically uses the latest Tryouts + Haali anyway.
