windows media player cannot play mp3

When I play avi or mp3 files using windows media player 7.1 I get the video but no audio. When I use real player I get the audio fine . I am using solo 2500 gateway laptop, win98 Ist edition. Any suggestions. Same thing happens with quicktime only video no audio.

Have no trouble with either Q/T or WMP 7.01 playing MP3 or AVI or anything alse on my two towers or my Gateway laptop.

I removed Real Player from all my systems because it was conflicting with other things. Have had no problems since.

You ought to make sure that your Q/T player is 5.X. Also, consider upgrading your 98 to 98SE. It is a big improvement in stability.
