I just reformatted my laptop with SP2 already installed. I went to the windows update page and downloaded all of the OS updates for .net, windows media player, etc. All downloads completed successfully and I was asked to restart. My system booted normally but when I attempted to load my play list to get on with the rest of my work, WMP produced the following error:
"Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled. Do you want to install the Player from the Microsoft Website?"
I clicked Yes and it took me to the windows media player home page. I downloaded the full program and attempted to install it. Everything seemed to be going OK with the installation but at the end I received the following error:
"It was not possible to complete Setup
Windows Media Player 10 was not installed. To update Windows, run Windows Media Player 10 Setup again."
I did what it suggested but it produced the same error. I went to windows update and it listed Windows Media player but the file size was 0.0 megs. I attempted to download it again from windows update but the installation failed as well. As a last resort I also uninstalled/reinstalled it through add/remove > windows components. It was not listed in the normal add/remove programs list. However, it is listed here on my main machine. Is there a way to repair WMP without having to reformat my laptop again? Any information would help. Thanks.
