Windows Media Player always shows the same CD... can't get rid of it! HELP pls!

Hello,

I have a computer that has Windows Media Player on it and it has a very strange problem... It thinks that every single CD I try to play is "Abba: The Masters Collection"!

I cannot figure out how to get it to pick-up the information about what CD is actually in the drive. I have tried upgrading to WMPversion9... I have tried removing and reinstalling WMP... none of which has worked. Also, it does this under every user that logs in... so it is seperate from any user profiles.

Any ideas on how to get rid of this information and/or force it to refresh the CD information to reflect the new media in the drive?

Thanks as always!

In WMP9 go to Tools>Privacy>Clear CD\DVD History. This should work. Also, is it showing up incorrect in Now Playing or Media Library or both?

This is what you get for listening to Abba, folks. 😛

I tried your advice, but it didn't work... however, it did yeild more usefull information. The media information just shows up in the 'now playing' section. I disabled the option to 'retreive media information for CDs/DVDs from the internet' and it then shows "unknown album" instead of ABBA. However, as soon as I enable that option again, it shows up as ABBA!

So, it seems like instead of getting the correct information from whatever CDDB server it is using it just gets ABBA. Is there a way to force it to retreive new information? Or maybe get info from a different CDDB server? I tried clearing out internet temp files and cookies, but that didn't help. Where is the setting stored on which CDDB server to use?

Any other ideas?
THX! Eps.

What happens if you try to Find Album Info (top right corner in Now Playing)? Strangely enough, I can't even find an album by ABBA called "The Masters Collection" when trying to force WMP to change info on a CD I inserted.

Okay, I figured it out... The user had told me that "ANY" cd she put in would come up as ABBA... however, it is really only once CD that comes up incorrectly. It is the CD "Beethoven's Classics" and my bet is just that this CD is not in the CDDB database, or is in there incorrectly. I put in a couple other CDs and they worked fine!

Just to note, the full name of the Abba CD that you couldn't find is:
"20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of ABBA"

Thanks for your help... it seems in this case it was my fault for believing the user when they claimed that it was ANY cd!
lol:beer:

Thanks again!

Glad to hear everything worked out for the best. This is one of the few drawbacks I have found that WMP9 has -- you can't specify different CD info servers and theirs aren't the best...but they do do album art and artist bio's, etc, so I really can't complain. 🙂
